Tulkas Initiatives
501(c)(3) Anti-Trafficking NGO
Tulkas Initiatives Inc. is a US-based NGO that was founded to combat human trafficking in SE Asia. At Tulkas we see that the root cause of systemic evil, particularly human trafficking, is deeply spiritual in nature, so we focus on introducing both traffickers and sex tourists to Jesus in order for Him to heal their brokenness from within. This will in turn attack the core the entire trafficking industry.
Each person who chooses to follow Jesus will gradually be transformed by the work of the Holy Spirit to the point where they will not only be stop participating in the human trafficking environment, but can become a powerful ally to show other people in their circles about their new life with God, a life full of love for other people.
This approach was inspired by first-hand experience serving with some of the main counter-trafficking organizations in SE Asia. We would see victims rescued from brothels and scam centers, perpetrators arrested, and thousands of customers cycle through the red light districts. However we would also see victims get re-trafficked, bosses go free, and little lasting change to the trafficking landscape.
It felt like we saw doctors sending sick people back to work with a bottle of cough medicine instead of prescribing sunshine, vitamins and rest. Will the cough medicine be beneficial? Yes. Will it heal the person? No. We saw what will.
Christ can heal every aspect of the problem.
We have personally witnessed God use Christ-centered NGOs to help trafficking victims find healing and renewed purpose through Biblical dicipleship and community.
We feel the calling to extend that model to the traffickers and customers. A person transformed by the Holy Spirit to love people and follow God will not traffic people or frequent brothels.
They are incompatible.
However, not everyone will choose to follow Jesus, so we reserve a secondary plan to work alongside local agencies to gather actionable intelligence on trafficking rings and bring down their networks.
